Bishop Frank Caggiano

The Most Reverend Bishop Frank Caggiano is a New Yorker, first generation of Italian parents.  He grew up in Gravesend in the parish of Saints Simon and Jude in the Diocese of Brooklyn.  He graduated from Jesuit run Regis High School in Manhattan.   He began to study Political Science at Yale in 1977 major and pronounced his fiat to God’s call in 1978 transferring to Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception.   He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in June 1981 and then worked as a sales representative for McGraw Hill Publishing Company.

Bishop Frank then began his major seminary studies at the Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, New York.  He was ordained to the holy priesthood in 1987 by Bishop Mugavero.   He ministered to the faith full of Saint Agatha in Bay Ridge and at Saint Athanasius in Bensonhurst until 1991.   He traveled to Rome where he earned a Doctorate in Sacred Theology in 1996 from the Pontifical Gregorian University.

Upon his return to the Brooklyn he ministered in Saint Jude in Canarsie while also serving as the Dean of Formation for the Permanent Diaconate Program and Censor Librorum for the Diocese.  He became the pastor of Saint Dominic’s Church in Bensonhurst in 1998 and taught theology at Saint John’s University and at Saint Joseph’s College.   He was raised to the rank of Papal Chaplain by St. Pope John Paul II in 2003.   Bishop DiMarzio appointed him in 2004 as the diocesan Vicar for Evangelization and Pastoral Life.  He was elevated to Bishop in 2006 and appointed Auxiliary Bishop in the Diocese of Brooklyn.

The faithful of the Diocese of Brooklyn loved Bishop Frank.   He is filled with energy and spiritually energized the faithful when he preached.   He is gifted to reach young people and has presented at youth events in Ireland, Australia, Spain, Brazil, Poland, and Washington, D.C.   In November 2013, he was appointed to a three-year term as episcopal advisor of The National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry.

The Diocese of Brooklyn lost but the Diocese of Bridgeport gained a wonderful spiritual leader when Bishop Frank was installed as their 5th Bishop.
