Mass for Racial Justice and Solidarity
In the wake of the ongoing racial violence against people of color, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops called on each and every Catholic to pray and fast for an end to racism. Bishop Shelton J. Fabre, the chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Ad Hoc Committee Against Racism, reiterated the value of those whose human life and dignity in this country are being marginalized through racism.The US bishops called September 9, 2020 to be a national day of fasting and prayer. The day coincided with the Feast of St. Peter Claver, the Spanish priest who ministered to Blacks brought to South America from West Africa.Auxiliary Bishop Tiedemann of the Diocese of Brooklyn celebrated a liturgy a closing liturgy at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph.
